The Future of Australian Surfing
Isla Huppatz is one of Australia’s most exciting emerging surfing talents — a fearless, technically gifted athlete who has already made a significant impact on the national and international stage. Growing up on the Gold Coast in a family deeply connected to surf culture, Isla developed her competitive drive early and has quickly risen through the ranks to become a standout performer in women’s surfing.
At just fifteen, Isla captured national attention when she won the WSL Gold Coast Open as a wildcard, becoming one of the youngest athletes in history to win an Open Women’s World Qualifying Series event. Since then, she has continued to build a remarkable résumé, including victories on the Pro Junior circuit, top finishes at the ISA World Junior Surfing Championships, and a standout fifth place at the WSL World Pro Junior Championships.
A Career Built on Hard Work and Heart
Isla’s journey is defined by her commitment to excellence. She is part of the Queensland Academy of Sport and Surfing Australia’s talent development pathway, where her coaches value her professionalism, positive mindset, and ability to perform under pressure. Beyond her individual success, Isla is also a proud team competitor — recently contributing a crucial score to help Burleigh Boardriders claim a historic Australian Boardriders Battle title.
Still completing Year 12, Isla balances her academic commitments with the demands of elite sport, demonstrating maturity well beyond her years. She is driven, humble, and passionate about being a role model for young female surfers, always striving to set a strong example through her attitude and work ethic.
A Vision for 2032 and Beyond
Isla’s long-term goals reflect her ambition and belief in what’s possible. She aims to qualify for the WSL Challenger Series, win a World Junior Title, secure a place on the Championship Tour, and ultimately represent Australia at the Brisbane 2032 Olympic Games. With her talent, determination, and the support of Grow for Gold, Isla is on a clear path toward becoming one of Australia’s next great surfing champions.
