Focused, Fast, and Fearless

Maguire Reid is one of Australia’s rising forces in Canoe Sprint — a sport that demands precision, power, and total discipline. Recognised as a Podium Potential athlete by the Australian Institute of Sport, Maguire trains within Paddle Australia’s National Centre of Excellence on the Gold Coast, an elite environment that has shaped many of the country’s Olympic champions.

From his first strokes on the water to his most recent international performances, Maguire has shown a rare combination of athleticism and competitive instinct. His progression has been rapid, consistent, and driven by the kind of work ethic coaches describe as “model professional”.

Racing Ahead

Over recent years, Maguire has represented Australia at both Junior and Under-23 levels, steadily building his experience and presence on the global stage. His 2025 season marked a defining step forward, earning selection to compete for the senior national team at the ICF World Cups in Hungary and Poland — a milestone achievement that highlights his readiness to take on the world’s best.

Balancing Books and Boats

What truly sets Maguire apart is his ability to balance elite sport with his academic commitments at Griffith University. His dedication extends far beyond training; he demonstrates maturity, time management, and humility that few athletes his age possess. His approach to both sport and study reflects a long-term vision grounded in character and ambition.

Eyes on the Olympic Horizon

With momentum building and the Brisbane 2032 Olympic Games approaching, Maguire’s trajectory is clear. He represents the next wave of Australian paddlers poised to elevate the sport on home soil. Through the Grow for Gold program, he continues to develop the strength, speed, and resilience needed to follow in the footsteps of the Gold Coast greats who came before him — and to create a legacy of his own.
